The study on needs accessment of health education for middle school students

Abstract
Health education is necessary for the middle school students. however, it is just described in 7th curriculum revision edition about middle school, While the middle school student¢¥s health education isn¢¥t really operated in curriculum of school.

Therefore this research has been attempted to measure on the perception, experience and needs for health education by 811 respondents; 611 students and 200 teachers of middle school in Seoul.

1. For the acknowledge of health, 85.996 students thought that they¢¥re in a good health. hut for the health behavior, 19.5% of students had a unbalanced diet, 12.9% of smoking, 35.0% of drinking and 33% of stimulant experience, there was a significant difference in smoking, drinking. stimulant experience, and drug abuse of students on school year.

2. 86.5% of students had taken health education class, the majority(83.7%) was by health educator or school nurse, in the acknowledge of health education Sex education is the highest(86.8%). 62.7% of students and 95.9% teachers responded positively to the needs of health education, 43.3% students and 62.1% teachers asked 1 hour a week for a health education class. 85.2% of teachers answered that the methods and the evaluations of health education were not satisfactory.

3. The ideal areas of health education showed differences in students and teachers.; The best ideal area of health education for students were Mental health, Health- habit, Family sex education, Nutrition growth and development in sequence.; there were difference in 6th later sequence on sex.; The best for teachers were Drug abuse, Environmental health and Mental health.;

4. The teaching methods in health education was ¢¥lecture¢¥ and ¢¥discussion¢¥ in order, teaching methods which they wanted to improve were ¢¥discussion¢¥ and ¢¥research¢¥ in each area.; Evaluation-methods of teachers was as followings ¢¥objective - subjective-mixed test¢¥ and ¢¥objective-test¢¥. 81.6% answered unsatisfactory about the methods and evaluation-methods
